How long do expungements typically take?

For misdemeanor cases, the attorney’s preparation of the paperwork to file at the court house can usually be drafted in a relatively short time.  However, once it his the court house, the time for resolution varies from locale to locale.  Often before a judge will sign the order, the district attorney’s position must be determined.  Felony expungements require service on the arresting agency and a hearing in court. After the judge signs the order and the fees are paid through the clerk’s office, the documentation goes to Baton Rouge where it can take from a few weeks to several months or longer to process.
